Pureforge Startup Uses Rocket Science to Make Brakes That Last

A new Startup called PureForge has come up with a novel idea to extend the life of brake rotors and pads.

The company looks to be on a roll, having tested the performance of its brake systems in fleets of police motorcycles in western states. In fact, the company proudly forecasts annual sales of $367 million in five years.

The brakes are attractive to law enforcement agencies —- and fleets of vehicles, for that matter —- because of the ability to lower maintenance costs, improve safety by braking over shorter distances than conventional systems, and perform better in extreme heat, cold or rainy driving conditions, according to Wall and Meckel, 59, an applied physicist whose father, Benjamin Meckel, worked on propulsion engines for deep space probes. The super-hardened brake rotors and pads also don’t leave a toxic dust trail like conventional systems. A black grime of dust on the rims of motorcycle wheels isn’t visible when PureForge brakes have been installed.
